UAE’s new rules on employment-related injuries

Organisations with 50 workers or more have to set a system in place to monitor work injuries and occupational diseases.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has issued new decisions regarding the rules and guides for procedures dealing with work injuries and occupational diseases. The announcement made on Tuesday further strengthens the human rights protection system.

The decision states that organisations with 50 workers or more have to set a system in place to monitor work injuries and occupational diseases including a record of injuries, preventative tools, limiting dangerous activities and periodic health examinations.

Companies are obligated to not terminate the employee or cancel the contract of the injured/sick person until after all dues are cleared.

Workers are to be compensated for work injuries and occupational diseases. In the event that an injury leads to the death of the worker, the compensation will be due to those entitled to it according to legislative forces in the country or the will of the worker.
