UAE to make health insurance mandatory

UAE and Gulf however seek ways to attract and retain more talent promoting health and well-being of its citizens and residents.

The UAE government has decided to make health insurance mandatory for all residents of the UAE in the year 2023, with hopes of going a long way in creating an ecosystem for universal health coverage. The legislation will, in turn, ensure a healthy population that not only contribute to the economic wealth but also strengthens the reputation of the country as an ideal place to live, work and do business.

Earlier, Dubai has passed legislation to make health insurance coverage compulsory for every resident in the emirate in 2013. The government-linked this with the issuance of employment and residence visas to implement the program, however, it was limited to Dubai residents.

With the new law, the UAE has once again taken a leadership role in promoting the health and well-being of its citizens and residents. UAE and Gulf however seek ways to attract and retain more talent, these countries need to undertake initiatives that help residents develop a better sense of safety and security.
