The UAE leads the Arab world in a report assessing global knowledge, since it ranked first in the Arab world and bagged the 25th position globally in the Global Knowledge Index 2022.

The Global Knowledge Index (GKI), which was produced annually since 2017, is a summary measure for tracking the knowledge performance of countries at the level of seven areas, namely pre-university education, technical and vocational education and training, higher education, research, development and innovation, information and communications technology, economy and the general enabling environment.

The index assesses 132 countries, including 11 Arab nations, and 155 variables in areas such as education, innovation, knowledge, the economy, technology and research and development. The GKI gleans its information from organisations such as the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the UN’s cultural body UNESCO.

The UAE ranked 11th overall in the 2021 index and 15th the previous year. In a further boost, the country secured an average score of 58.9 across all categories in the index, well above the international average of 46.5.

This time, as per the index, the UAE has secured the first rank in the knowledge indicator, 11th in the economy indicator, 15th in the information and communications technology (ICT) indicator, 29th in the innovation and R&D, and 30th, 44th and 46th in pre-university education, higher education and enabling environment, respectively.
