A 50 per cent discount on fines imposed for breaking COVID-19 precautionary measures has just been announced by the Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Prosecution.
From tomorrow (March 15), you will be able to clear any unpaid violations during the pandemic for less.
The decision will last for two months.
You can pay the fines through the Ministry of Interior website or application. All you need to pay is either your Emirates ID or passport number.
Penalties for breaking COVID-19 precautionary measures were announced at the beginning of the pandemic, with new and increased fines introduced at various stages.
Fines included Dhs3,000 for failing to wear a face mask or violating social distancing rules, Dhs20,000 for promoting or publishing misleading news about the pandemic, rising up to Dhs50,000 for breaking home quarantine.
COVID-19 restrictions have been slowly eased, with the biggest remaining restriction – requiring the Al Hosn green pass to enter public spaces – ending in November 2022.
In the same announcement, the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority (NCEMA) said that all restrictions related to COVID-19, with the exception of wearing face masks in health facilities and centres for people of determination, had been removed.
Most face mask restrictions were removed in September 2022.
