UAE unemployment insurance: How to apply for the job loss insurance scheme

The scheme was implemented to provide financial support to those in times of job loss

UAE announced the unemployment insurance scheme for its country’s employees on January 1, 2023. Initially, freezone workers and semi-government entity employees were exempt. However, it was later announced that subscriptions are now open for employees of both previously exempt sectors.

The unemployment insurance scheme is mandatory and those who fail to subscribe by the end of the grace period on June 30 will be subject to fines by the authorities.

The scheme was implemented to provide financial support to those in times of job loss, the insurance covers eligible workers for three months with sums up to AED20,000.

Priced from AED5 to AED10, the unemployment insurance scheme is available through select insurance providers and is open to subscription on the official ‘involuntary loss of employment’ website.

Application steps

  • Visit the iloe.ae website or mobile application
  • Under the ‘Registered User’ tab on the mobile app, select ‘Non-Registered in MoHRE’.
  • Next, click on ‘Create an Account’ under the ‘Login’ button. A sign up page will appear.
  • Enter your name, e-mail address, mobile number, and your Emirates ID number. Click on register.
  • You will then receive an e-mail with an ILOE generated password on the registered e-mail address.
  • Enter the password on the ILOE app page. You will then be redirected to another page which will ask you to change your password. Once your password has been changed, login using your new password under the ‘Registered User’ tab.
  • Click on the ‘Non-Registered in MoHRE’ button before logging in.
  • Enter your details – worker name, gender, date of birth, company name, passport number, basic salary, and nationality. The ‘category’ section will be automatically generated once you enter your salary.
  • Before submitting your details, attach a scanned copy of your Emirates ID, Work Visa, or Residency Visa.
  • Once you have submitted your details, your policy will be generated – either one year or two year.
  • Under the one year policy, you can choose four options – Monthly policy, Quarterly Policy, Semi Annual Policy and Annual Policy.
  • You can also buy an insurance policy for two years, which amounts to AED126, with 0 installments.

The fine for non-subscription will be AED400 and the fine for missing paying the monthly instalment premium on time will be AED200.

To be eligible for the payout, employees must have been subscribed to the unemployment insurance scheme for a minimum of 12 months.

Investors/company owners, domestic helpers, temporary contract workers, juveniles and retirees are exempted from the job loss scheme.
